The answer depends on the tree and on what's wrong with it, and you can get it without committing to anything. Tell us which tree it is and where it sits, and we'll say whether it can wait for cooler weather. A priced quote follows our visit.
Is winter or summer better for trimming here?
For most trees in Augusta-Richmond County, the cooler months are the better time. Summers here are long, hot and humid, and that heat-and-humidity season is hard on a crew working aloft all day. Winters are short and cool, with an occasional freeze. With the leaves down, we can see the branch structure, pick the cuts that matter and skip the ones that don't.
That's a default, not a rule. Species and the tree's condition can override the calendar, which is why we ask what you've got before we put a date on anything.

What shouldn't wait for the cooler months?
A dead branch, a diseased limb, or anything hanging over the roof, driveway or play area is a safety problem, and we don't hold it for a season. We come look at it and handle it when it's safe to climb.
Flowering trees run the other way. Spring bloomers are the exception. Cutting at the wrong time can take the flowers with it, so for those trees the bloom schedule sets the timing.
If the worry is a weak limb you'd rather keep than cut off, trimming may not be the answer. Cabling and bracing is a separate job and runs $200 to $1,000 depending on the tree and what it needs. We'll tell you at the visit which of the two your tree actually calls for.
What goes into a trimming quote?
We walk the property, check how a crew gets to the tree, and judge whether the tree can take the work. Before we rig and lower cut sections, we check that the trunk and limbs can take that load, and that there's room around the tree to rig safely. Where the reach is manageable, pole tools do the job from the ground.
Power lines change the plan. We stay at least 10 feet away from them. Where that isn't possible, the utility has to cut power and ground the lines before anyone climbs. That affects scheduling, so we'd rather know about the lines when you call than find them on the day.
On the phone we can give you a ballpark range, but the firm price waits until we've seen the tree. That price is on paper before a saw starts.
What happens when you call?
On the call, we'll ask about the tree: the species if you know it, where it stands, and what has you worried. If you don't know the species, that's fine. We'll find out when we get there.
Nothing needs scheduling on that first call, and the season can stay undecided. If a visit makes sense, we'll arrange a time, and what happens next is up to you once you've read the quote.
